Formed in 2006, Still Insane is a Punk Rock band from Quebec, Canada. The band was inspired by ‘90s Californian Skatepunk and their stated aim is to play fast, to play loud, and to play everywhere.
They have certainly achieved the first two aims on their new release EP Black Sheep, the band’s first new music since 2017’s Friends & Family EP. I don’t know if they have managed to play everywhere yet though.
The EP consists of five new tracks, first up is Sleeping On The Floor which grabs you straight away with a fuzzy guitar riff before exploding into life at a frantic pace with drums and guitar all over the place! There is a real surprise halfway through when the lead vocal is taken over by a female before reverting to male a nice touch as is the change of pace towards the end of the track.
Title track Black Sheep follows and is probably the best song out of the five. It sounds a bit metal with its heavy riffs and screaming guitar solo, but it keeps up the pace and is quite “in your face” as is the next track No More Targets, all 1.07 minutes of it! Sharp, short and sweet!
Stay At Home is the inevitable and unsurprising nod to the Covid situation that we have all found ourselves in over the past 18 months or more.
The band finishes things off with Thank You, another frantic rocker that brings the EP to a satisfactory end.
